5 Conversion optimization to have higher rankings
Nav readers to subscribe!
A lot of blog owners still think that because their website is a blog, they don’t have to optimize anything. But that is Wrong. To achieve higher rankings you MUST PROCEED TO CONVERSION & COMMENT OPTIMIZATION. Let me explain. It’s logical that to get people to link to you, they have to read your blog. And getting someone who already visits you regularly link to your blog is much easier than getting someone who visits you for first time.
First of all it is very important to add an RSS subscribe button as it offers a way to subscribe by e-mail. Also offering weekly e-mail subscriptions via MailChimp, proved to be very useful since people tend to click through on those the most.
Another thing of the same importance is the time when people might want to subscribe to your blog. If they’ve just finished reading an article of yours, and really liked it, that would be the ideal time to reach them, right? That is why most bloggers now add references at the end of their posts like the following one : “Liked this post? Subscribe to our newsletter and get loads more!”
Another great time to force people to subscribe is when they just commented on your blog for the first time. For this purpose we use the fantastic Yoast’s Comment Hacks plugin.
This plugin leads us to the next major aspect of WordPress SEO: Comment Optimization
6 Comment optimization to achieve higher rankings
Get those readers involved
Comments are one of the most important aspects of blogs. As Wikipedia states: “The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.”
Comments are nice. People tell you how special you are and how beautiful is your website’s design or that you made a mistake, or whatever. Most of all they’re nice, because they show engagement. And engagement is one of the most important factors of getting people to link to you: they show you they care, and they open the conversation to make it clear that found your site helpful etc. Now all you have to do is respond, and you just built a relationship!
A. How to get people to comment
The easiest way of getting people to do anything is to ask them to do it. Write in an engaging style, and then ask your blog’s readers for an opinion, their opinion or point of view etc.
Another important things is your comment links meaning your text or your message. If your comment link is impersonal and without feeling at all, like : “No comments”? , Do not hope too much. On the other side a: “No Comments yet, your thoughts are welcome” comment has to say more and in a friendlier approach to your possible Subscribers. DO CHANGE this by opening your
index.php template, search for
comments_popup_link() and changing the texts within that php function.
B. Create a bond with your commenters
Another thing to do is thank people when they’ve commented on your weblog. Not every time, because that get’s annoying, but doing it the first time is a very good idea.
So the installation of a plugin which sends an email after someone has made his first comment would be considered as a good idea. So we recommend you to install Yoast’s Comment Hacks plugin. This plugin, which was referred above again, allows you to redirect people who have made their first comment to a specific “thank you” page.
C. Keeping people in the conversation helps achieving higher rankings
People joined the conversation on your blog. You should now be sure that they stay in the conversation. For that purpose, you should install the subscribe to comments plugin. This plugin allows people to subscribe to a comment thread as they would in a forum, and sends them an e-mail on each new comment. This way, you ensure keeping the conversation going, and maybe your readers will be giving you new angles or ideas for new posts.
